ANSWERING Insightful Questions About Space
Earlier, we quoted the brilliant and insightful Fotini Markopoulou as she put forth relevant questions about the true nature of Space. Among them, were why does Space have three dimensions. It is to this attention that we will now give out attention, for we have already answered her other question: "Is Space continuous or discrete?" Below, we discuss what each dimension does and its contribution to human happiness.
Dimension ONE
The first thing we have to recognize about dimensions is what they are and what they are not. Dimensions are prerequisites for human and therefore baryonic existence. A dimension is something that is necessary for humans to be alive. Take the three dimensions of Space. The fact that Jehovah and his only begotten Son existed before Space was created, shows that spirit beings do not need the three dimensions of Space to exist. Whereas, no baryonic matter can exist outside of the containing volume of Space/Heaven! We can say something similar for time. As such dimensions, all dimensions, are necessary for human existence and contribute to our happiness.
The other side of that reality is the nonsensical talk of "extra" dimensions by Intellectuals trying to impose one or other of their quirky impractical ideas on a gullible public. If dimensions are prerequisites for human existence and pleasure, it follows that any dimension that is hidden, or undetectable by humans (as claimed by string theorists) - DOES NOT EXIST!
The first dimension allows humans to move back and forth across one line on a flat plane. Draw a straight line with a ruler on a sheet of paper. That is one dimension and in such a world people would only be able to move by going back and forth, in that line. If two people occupied the 'same' line, they would not be able to pass each other. If someone else was in a line that was parallel to yours, you would never meet them! And so on and so forth. You can spend some time thinking up other scenarios.
One Dimensionality LIMITS Free Will
The most important thing to realize about the first dimension, is that if Jehovah had limited physical reality to one dimension, humans would have NO FREE WILL. One dimension means, by definition, that the outworking of our lives are predetermined. Whereas the paths humans live out now are freely determined. We choose whether to be good or bad, for instance. The consequences are not determined by us, but by God. However, the actions themselves come from each individual human. Hence, our accountability to God, for them. Thus, it is out of love that Jehovah created more than one dimension.
Dimension TWO
In a two dimensional universe, things get a little bit better - but not by much. Now you can move not only along an up/down axis, but also a left/right one. In this scenario we are granted a bit more freedom, but our lives are still largely predetermined. Our social interactions for instance are largely determined at "birth," that is, they are determined by our initial conditions: where and when we were born. We have one more variable is interacting with others in this two dimensional world, but our movements are highly restricted - hence heavily deterministic. But that is not the gravest part of living in a two-dimensional world.
More grievous than our lack of personal choice and movement is the fact that the missing dimension of height robs us of experiencing the highs that make life enjoyable and the immersing ourselves in the richness and depth of the full human experience. Without height we would have no sense or appreciation of beauty. Do you like mountains? You wouldn't know what they were if you lived in a two-dimensional flatland where height - of any scale - didn't exist! To understand what the experience of living in such a world would be like imagine that you are a two dimensional creature living on a flat piece of paper that is lying at the edge of a desk. What would you see if someone lowered a billiard ball past the edge of that desk. Since you are ignorant of height, and incapable of experiencing it, you would first see a small line from left to right. As the ball dropped lower and lower, this line would grow in width - equally around its center - until it reached a maximum length (in the middle of the ball). Then the line would get smaller and smaller until it was the same size as the initial line that you saw. And then it would vanish. That would be the sum of your experience. Limited. I'm sure you would agree. But the effect of two-dimensionality is not limited to physical realities.
Complexity is not achieved how people typically think it is. God has created many complex systems, but they are created by LAYERING MANY SIMPLE STEPS OVER ONE ANOTHER. Intuitively, people think complexity is a created directly by making something complex from the get go. This is typically not true. Think of a good movie or series that you like, and whose characters you find engaging. How did the writers and director achieve that richness of character? By layering many different parts of the person's life on top of each other. That is why good character development takes time. Typically, you might find that the first half of the movie is all about this development and layering of the character's life experiences - with the action (I don't watch romcoms) only coming at the end. Or, in the case of trilogies. The whole first movie is called the origin story and facilitates this character development. Only at the end of the first movie is the hero now ready to take on the world. The lesson is: complexity comes from layering many simple elements together. It is hardly ever achieved by creating something complex directly. Thus two dimensional existence would rob humans of the ability both to experience and to create rich social experiences. For there can be no layering in a depth prohibiting environment. Such simple components to the layering effect would rest next to each and not on top of each other - taking away the sense of continuity which is critical for rich character development.
A simple way to think of what would be lost if we were created in a two-dimensional world then, is to summarize it into "height" and "depth." Lack of height would rob us of the thrills of seeing awe-inspiring spectacles of nature. Like the feeling of your breath being taken away when you see a tall mountain, or when you see the Milky Way in an isolated place. It is early February now, and I saw a title in the The Guardian about people trekking to Sweden to go and see the Northern Lights. All that would be gone. The second part of the puzzle to think of the lack of depth in social terms. Think of it as robbing you of the "richness" that comes from layering the simple things in life one on top of another. I once watched a clip of a guy who said his father taught him that he should have short term goals, mid term goals, long term goals, and one goal that it would take him his whole life to achieve. That stuck with me. Such complex planning is impossible is a simple, limited, unlayerable two-dimensional realm.
Dimension THREE
So we know why we need three dimensions. And yet without the fourth all three of the first dimensions wouldn't exist. What do I mean? ...
Dimension FOUR
The fourth dimension is Time! Time is even more fundamental than Space, because God and Christ can exist outside of Space. This is obvious, because according to the Bible - which by now, we have come to understand is the authority on all matters Scientific - it was Christ who actually fabricated Heaven/Space. Thus his "creation" was performed before the existence of Space. (Col 1:15,16a; Joh 1:3)
It is a higher grade subject that requires and has its own episode, but I will just tell you bluntly now, that CHRIST IS THE FOURTH DIMENSION - HE IS TIME. I will explain it all clearly ... another time. For now, we just concentrate on the fact that was also highlighted - incidentally - by Fotini Markopoulou. Time can exist without Space, but Space cannot exist without Time. Hence Time is more fundamental than Space! Her reasoning was that Space is a type of network, but other networks are possible, in which objects can exist, that are not Space. On the other hand, nothing can happen outside of Time. Everything that happens must happen IN Time - or to put it more naturally: within a certain Time period, or at a specific moment in Time. (I keep capitalizing Time, to make clear that we are speaking of it as a distinct reality!) Markopoulou, you will agree, is brilliant. Good for her. In a very direct sense her explanation is exactly analogous to the reality, just like nothing can happen outside of Time, the Bible tells us that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING was created apart from Jesus! Read the words for yourself:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. This one was in the beginning with God. All things came into existence through him, and APART FROM HIM NOT EVEN ONE THING came into existenceJoh 1:1-3a
Christ is SPECIAL!
Dimension FIVE
Dimension five is the most important. Yes, even more important than the Christ. Immediately that should narrow it down to only one possibility:
Now Jehovah is the Spirit2Co 3:17a
I love my God.
Jehovah is the source of all reality. There is good reason why he often refers to himself as the "Alpha and the Omega,"" or the "first and the last,"" or the "beginning and the end" in the Bible. (Isa 44:6 ; Re 21:6; 22:13) The fifth dimension, as you might have guessed by now is the Spiritual Dimension! And, it is the most necessary foundational component for human life - and the existence of the universe! Everywhere where we get baryonic matter, we see that somehow it rests on the foundations of Inzintian, that is, Spiritual prerequisite realities:
By faith we perceive that the systems of things were put in order by God's word, so that what is seen has come into existence from things that are not visibleHeb 11:3
Let us remind ourselves of a few brief scientific examples of this fact. The "arrow of time" leads us back to initial conditions in search for the origin story of the universe. At initial conditions, the five "apparent salient features" of Light, as Steinhardt clearly explained, prove that said origin story could not be the product of a Big Bang. Keating phrased that as a "naturalistic" or "materialistic" origin story. However, the evidence as recorded by Light shows that initial condition was a zero entropy environment. Thus the five apparent salient features found in Light, prove that the universe did not originate from nature, but from supernature! That is, its orign is not a baryonic, but a spiritual source. Just as our scripture above testified to. Understanding that is the definition of faith - according to its two preceding verses!
Another example is that the "pure energy" from which all the matter - Inzintian and baryonic - in the universe came from is not radiation, but Jehovah's Holy Spirit. Which we have learned means his consciousness, or mind! His personal vital energy!
Another example is how the distribution of stars and hence galaxies in the universe is not random as initially thought by Intellectuals - but intelligently and skillfully mapped out by Jehovah, as we have learned in the last section on the previous page. As such, the spiritual heavens - Space - are the scaffolding of the entire Cosmos. They are what hold all the galaxies in their place and move them in their orbits. Neither is this relationship haphazard. Far from it. Through the Tully-Fisher Relation we learn of an exacting relationship between the amount of mass in a galaxy and the amount of Invisible Zint that exists in its surrounding spiritual halo! The better our technology gets at detecting this relationship, the more exacting its data becomes.
Thus, we have three empirically established reminders of how the invisible spiritual realm is empirically established by Science to be the source of the visible physical Cosmos. But, it gets deeper. The fact that we exist at all is a reflection of Jehovah's desire to create us:
You are worthy, Jehovah our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they came into existence and were createdRe 4:11
This section could go on for a very long time, because it represents all the events that have taken place to get us here. And many are the works of Jehovah in our behalf! So many they cannot be recounted. Do you appreciate them?
In conclusion: we have learned that the fifth dimension of Spirituality is the most fundamental one. Why then is it listed as the fifth? Because the natural way to catalogue the 5 dimensions of existence is through their natural order of discovery - not importance. Even Jehovah uses this cataloguing criteria himself. Space, which is fundamental to the existence of the Cosmos is listed as the "third heaven" in the Bible. (2Co 12:2) This is despite the fact that not only are they more fundamental - as the scaffolding of the Cosmos - than the first two heavens, but they literally existed before the other two, as they were created prior to the beginning of the creative days. While the other two were created during the creative days! (Ge 1:1 vs 1:6-8,14-17)
Humans discovered the three dimensions of Space first and then learned to utilize them to their benefit. Thereafter, we learned about Time - even if we are still confused as to what it really is (with some imagining it is a malleable component of spacetime). Nevertheless, humans are very familiar with - at least - the temporal versions of Time. And we have likewise built great civilizations based on our mastery of it. I am thinking of the Swiss and how you can set your watch to the smooth running of their trains - so punctual and efficient is their use ... and respect for Time!
So the last dimension to be discovered empirically, is actually the oldest - and the only one to have ALWAYS EXISTED! Can you spell fundamental? Unfortunately, people do not have the same regard for the fifth, but most fundamental dimension of human existence - and pleasure. Unlike the first four dimensions, no secular person wants to bother themselves with learning about spirituality, or trying to master it. Far from it. They view it as a shackle that prohibits their inclinations for this, that, or the other desire - usually unnatural. However, if we understand what dimensions signify about reality, we should realize that spiritually cannot possibly be a shackle! Instead it must be a means that once discovered and mastered would lead us to realize our fullest potential! It is for this reason that spirituality is the only dimension that God has put into every human soul! This ingrained need for spirituality manifests itself through the ubiquitous need in all human societies - throughout mankind's history - to worship a higher being!:
Happy are those conscious of their spiritual needMt 5:3a
So important is this dimension to our continued existence and happiness that Jehovah repeatedly petitions people to search for him:
For this is what Jehovah says to the house of Israel: 'Search for me and keep living.'Am 5:4
And, lest you think such pleas are directed only to the ancient nation of Israel:
And he made out of one man every nation of men to dwell on the entire surface of the earth, and he decreed the appointed times and the set limits of where men would dwell, so that they would seek God, if they might grope for him and really find him, although, in fact, he is not far off from each one of usAc 17:26,27
And ...
Therefore, we are ambassadors substituting for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us. As substitutes for Christ, we beg: "Become reconciled to God."2Co 5:20
While it is true that this last scripture applies to only 144 000 special individuals, its principle message applies to all mankind:
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through himJoh 3:16,17
And lastly ...
And he is a propitiatory sacrifice for our sins [the special group], yet not for ours only but also for the whole world's1Jo 2:2
Incidentally the Bible is the only source to have correctly identified and numbered all the existing dimensions of the universe! Current science Intellectuals don't even know what dimensions are, hence they speak of "hidden dimensions." Newton said, "No sciences are better attested than the religion of the Bible." Again, he was right! Here is the Apostle Paul - through the Holy Spirit, of course - cataloguing all five dimensions:
For by him we have life and move and exist, even as some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his children.'Ac 17:28
We have answered Fotini's excellent questions. Next, we move on to tackling the difficult subject of what is Gravity? I'm kidding. It's dead simple! The truth always is. That's why magicians never reveal their tricks. The let down in the faces of people, once they realize how the trick is done is too much of a downer for a person who has invested so much time to become a showman! Never reveal how a trick is done, is the first rule of Magic! Fortunately for us, Jehovah is not a magician, but a worker. A skillful and uber-intelligent Creator who wants his children to share in the joy, of the knowledge - of his wondrous works!
And, it is in that spirit, that we will listen as he helps us figure out: what is gravity?
